TOKYO, Oct 25 — Even if they haven’t tried it, almost everyone who has visited Japan knows that soft, custard-filled Tokyo Banana is one of the most popular gifts to get for those who have a sweet tooth.
While the fruit-flavoured cake remains its signature treat, the Japanese company introduced a new flavour last week.
Behold, the Ginza Matcha Cake, Tokyo Banana’s first featuring a Japanese flavour for the first time in 16 years.
Boasting the same fluffy sponge exterior as Tokyo Banana, it heroes a double filling of green-tea-flavoured cream mixed with sweet red bean paste surrounded by an additional layer of “matcha milk cream”.
Each sponge is topped with a green heart, which, according to Sora News 24, Tokyo Banana “hopes will put a smile on your face and help you relax, just like you might when you have nice hot cup of matcha tea.”
Available at most stores that stock their signature souvenir, the Ginza Matcha Cake will retail for ¥560 (RM20) for four pieces, ¥1,080 for eight and ¥1,620 for 12.
