GEORGE TOWN, Nov 18 — Have you ever looked at your chopping board and wondered how it was made? Or at a pretty ceramic plate and wondered about the skills required to create it?

The upcoming In-Between Arts Festival (IBAF) at Hin Bus Depot is taking food appreciation to another level by organising 26 programmes that focus on the various processes behind a plate of food.

The IBAF, a collaborative event organised by Hin Bus Depot and Addonlife, kicks off on November 26 at Good Friends club and Backdoor Bodega, next to Hin Bus Depot, with a mixed media performance and a launch party.

Out of the 26 events lined up for the five-day event that ends on November 30, 19 will be workshops such as the making of chopping boards and ceramic plates and cups.

Event Manager Khing Chuah said the IBAF this year focuses on the whole food eco-system instead of only on the end result, the food.

“A lot of people are not aware of the food eco-system before food is served so we want to highlight the processes behind the food during this festival,” she said.

Addonlife’s founder Winston Liew said the workshops organised will also feature sustainability and a healthy lifestyle.

The festival will come to a close with an evening picnic around Hin Bus Depot on November 30 where guests can pick and choose a spread of sandwich ingredients, each sourced from different restaurants and eateries, to create their very own sandwiches. Drinks and coffee will also be served.

The IBAF is held in between he annual George Town Literary Festival and the Penang Island Jazz Festival.

According to Hin Bus Depot gallery manager Wanida Razali, many have already signed up for the workshops but there are still spaces available.

“Those interested can still register for the workshops at our website,” she said.

About 2,000 people are expected to attend the festival throughout the five days.
