PANAMA CITY, May 11 ― The American e-commerce giant has clearly got a taste for the food industry. After launching its own online grocery business, Amazon is now expanding into meal kit delivery in the USA.

The web giant’s AmazonFresh grocery delivery subsidiary has joined forces with meat-monger Tyson Foods to develop a service delivering meal kits directly to the door of hungry customers, with recipes specially concocted by expert chefs. This new service, called “Tyson Taste Makers,” sees the two associates launch into a market that’s already well established in the USA, with an offer that emphasizes ingredient transparency with ready-to-cook meal kits. The origin of all meat ingredients will also be clearly stated.

Web users simply select the ingredients or recipes that take their fancy then enter the number of diners. Amazon and Tyson Foods’ teams then take care of preparing the meat, including smoking or marinating if need be. Stay-at-home chefs can then simply switch on the oven and wait for the doorbell to ring.

The “Tyson Taste Makers” service is due to launch in the USA this fall. Amazon’s meal kit business will already face several established competitors, such as Blue Apron and HelloFresh, which also operates in the UK. ― AFP
