PETALING JAYA, Feb 5 — The Mamak Malaysia restaurant in New York has received the Bib Gourmand designation in the Michelin Guide New York City 2014, not a Michelin one-star rating, as was previously reported by Bernama.

The designation is defined as “denoting good cuisine of a reasonable price in a variety of comfort categories,” on the official Michelin Travel website.

Restaurants with the designation offer two courses and a glass of wine or dessert “for US$40 (RM133) or less”, and are defined as “Inspectors’ Favourites for Good Value”.

The Star Online yesterday reported that the restaurant’s Penang-born owner chef Nani Yusof Hughie had shared the news on January 19 via its official Facebook page.

The news portal quoted her as writing, “Recently, Bib Gourmand rated Mamak in their Michelin Guide New York City 2014. This is an honour to us, to be in the elite group of restaurants rated and selected by Michelin’s local, anonymous inspectors.”

Four other Malaysia-themed eateries were also listed in the Bib Gourmand category this year. They are New Malaysia, Fatty Crab, Nyonya and Laut.

A search by The Star Online of the official Michelin Travel website showed that there are a total of 138 unstarred establishments designated as such in New York City in the 2014 edition of the guide.
