Poor health forces mixed doubles pair to surrender semi-final tie
Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Poor health has forced the mixed doubles of Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying to withdraw in the semi-final of the India Open Super Series in New Delhi today.

The headache and cough suffered by Liu Ying forced the top Malaysian pair to give a walkover to Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen of China, the top seeds in the tournament.

Peng Soon/Liu Ying were the last Malaysians standing after the men’s doubles of Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, lost 15-21, 17-21 to Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen of China in the quarter-final yesterday.

For the record, Malaysia did not send players for three events, namely the men’s singles, the women’s singles and the women’s doubles to the tournament which offers prizes totaling US$325,000 (RM1.436 million). — Bernama
