NEW YORK, Dec 4 — Khaled Hosseini’s inter-generational tale about love and family has won the Goodreads Reader’s Choice 2013 Award for Best Fiction.
Hosseini, already well-established with the success of 2003 debut “The Kite Runner,” saw “And the Mountains Echoed” accrue 24,686 votes from the Goodreads community, with the second and third place titles not too far behind and well separated from the pack.
“The Storyteller” by Jodi Picoult and “Me Before You” by Jojo Moyes were elected into second and third, with 21,269 and 19,656 votes apiece.
The top three’s significance was emphasised by a 10,000 vote gap that separated “Me Before You” and “The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt, “The Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriaty, “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Kline, “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion and “The House Girl” by Tara Conklin.
So there are a few seasonal gifts ideas, courtesy of Amazon-owned Goodreads — unless your nearest and dearest are part of the site, in which case they’ve probably read the lot and decided for or against already.
See if you can impress them with a signed copy of “The Epic of Gilgamesh” instead. — AFP-Relaxnews
