GEORGE TOWN, April 28 — Incumbent Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng will have to defend his seat against not only Barisan Nasional (BN) but also two other contenders from Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) and Malaysian United Party (MUP) in GE14.
Returning officer Datuk Rozali Mohamud confirmed the DAP secretary-general as the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate as well as the candidacies for BN’s Datuk Lee Beng Seng, PCM’s Datuk Huan Cheng Guan and MUP’s Koay Xing Boon.
Rozali made the announcement at about 1pm after a delay due to issues with PCM’s logo change.
PCM had initially wanted to use its new logo, but was rejected as the EC did not have a record of its new logo.
After about an hour of delay, the EC decided that PCM can still contest using its old logo.
The Bagan parliamentary constituency has three state seats under it — Sungai Puyu, Bagan Jermal and Bagan Dalam — which will also see multi-cornered fights.
In Sungai Puyu, DAP incumbent Phee Boon Poh will be defending his seat against BN’s Lim Hai Song, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s (PRM) Tan Lay Hock, Penang Front Party’s (PFP) Ong Yin Pin and Malaysian United Party’s (MUP) Neoh Bok Keng.
There will be a five-cornered right for Bagan Jermal state seat where DAP’s Soon Lip Chee will be defending the seat against BN’s Ang Chor Keong, PRM’s Teoh Chai Deng, MUP’s M. Hari Devydrai and PFP’s Fabian George Albart.
Soon is DAP’s incumbent Jawi assemblyman who was moved to this seat.
DAP Seberang Perai Municipal Councillor M. Satees will be defending the party’s Bagan Dalam state seat in a five-corner fight against BN’s J. Dhinagaran, PRM’s Teoh Huck Ping, MUP’s Teoh Uat Lye and PFP’s Jasper Ooi Zong Han.
All DAP candidates are representing the PH alliance and will be contesting under the PKR logo.
DAP has held the Bagan parliamentary seat since 1986. The constituency has a total 71,583 registered voters.
