KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 ― Despite allowing the Bersih 4 rally last weekend to go on, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has maintained that the rally is illegal and the authorities will be calling up more people for questioning.
Khalid said he has a team of police officers already looking through the pictures and videos taken at the rally and will be calling in more people to he investigated.
“It (Bersih 4 rally) is illegal and we never allowed it. When they defied our advices, we managed it.
“The crime has been done, we have to take whatever action. There will be more people called in. We have a team of officers looking at all video clips and photographs taken,” Khalid told reporters today after launching a security convention.
The police chief explained that several of the actions done by the participants during the rally was “uncivilised” and can be considered racist including putting up a “hell-note” for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“Few of the things that the participants did can be considered racist. When actions are not controlled, it will lead to many problems.
“There were security and observer teams. Why didn’t they do anything. Why didn’t they stop all these uncivilised behaviour?” Khalid added.
He also warned parties against trying to fuel more trouble from the rally by playing up racial elements.
“We are a multiracial country… this is a sensitive issue.
“I urge everyone to be patient, calm down and act rationally,” Khalid said explaining that several elements of the weekend rally including stepping on Najib’s and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang could provoke certain parties.
